This puppet troupe is based in
Raleigh, North Carolina. They travel
to where fun is needed, and perform
in a number of different states.
They have performed four shows a week for Kazoom Children’s Theater in Raleigh for over 10 years, The Holly Springs Cultural Center twice a month since January 2007, and at numerous festivals year after year. (for information about Kazoom, click here).
The head puppeteers, Carolyn Johnson and Helen Dawkins, both started in the children’s entertainment industry in the mid to late 1980’s. Over the years they have enjoyed making some unusual puppets and writing some fun children’s tales. But the most important thing, is for the children and their families to have fun.
Ms. Poly engages the puppets and audience in fun interactive banter. Many of the puppets are "live", that is they talk and interact with the audience and Ms. Poly, similar to Sesame Street characters talking to
real people. The character voices include Bartlet who is a five year old boy, Ms. Hennington the chicken, Clem the horse, Ms. Bossy the Jersey cow, Tammy Swynette the country music pig, to Charlie the blue monster with a deep jovial delivery just to name a few. Johnson and Dawkins perform all the voices for the dialog.
Their creativity makes this a truly fun and exciting experience as they
use brilliant neon and fluorescent colors, feathers, lights, music,
singing, bubbles, dancing and a smorgasbord of odd characters and fun
personalities.
Set against a professional tiered black curtain background, the brilliant colors of the professionally handmade puppets become even more spectacular. The Carolina Puppet Theater performs with artistry, a love for children and heart.
