Kazoom Children’s Theater in Raleigh, North Carolina is a participatory theater for children. Performing regularly is The Carolina Puppet Theater with Ms. Poly and Ms. Ester (the Gabardine Sisters) and Bartlet, the resident puppet. The children get to be the stars or puppeteers during the story as they come up on stage and portray the characters with minimal costuming or puppets. Each show has exciting musical puppet numbers and a variety of interactive guest puppets. You never know who’ll visit the theater!
KAZOOM NEWS |
Last updated: September 26, 2008 October is Halloween month! We encourage you to wear a costume of some sort from last year or a new one. If you don't have one yet, we will have simple costumes on hand for those who want to dress up. We don't do anything scary this month. Our story is "We're Going Trick-or-Treating" and we will be talking about the costumes and what everyone is dressed like. Please help yourselves to the costumes on stage before the show. Bartlet will be trying on different costumes and we need your help in deciding what he will wear on Halloween night. Our guest puppet is Charlie the Monster. He is very lovable, but very afraid of little girls, so please don't scare him!
All shows start at 10 and 11 on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The 11:00 show usually starts at 11:10. For weekend private parties see our birthday page. Still only $4 per person. If you would like to be told of closing days with an email, subscribe with your email address in the left column. We won't give it to ANYONE! When you come to the theater, bring a sweater or light jacket. The theater can be chilly!
Check out Comedy Worx. They let us use the theater during the day and for birthdays. This is a great time! www.comedyworx.com

During each show, a fun fanciful tale or holiday story is portrayed with the help of the child stars (that’s your children!). Music with movement plays a big part in engaging and inspiring the children. Any mail you bring is read outloud to Bartlet!
Ms. Poly and Ester (Carolyn Johnson and Helen Dawkins) have been performing puppetry since the mid 1980’s as The Carolina Puppet Theater. In 1997 they were asked to perform regularly in the City Market area of downtown in the Comedy Worx building. This was to be known as Kazoom Children’s Theater. Comedy Worx was not using the theater during the day and invited them to use the space.
Ms. Poly and Ester and Bartlet moved with Comedy Worx to Peace Street a few years later and have been there ever since as a fixture for young children to enjoy this creative time with families, preschools, and nannies.
The shows are fast-paced and lively for the short attention spans of the very young. Best ages are preschool ages 2 through 7, but even younger ones enjoy the music and puppets and watching the older children.
Shows are on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10 and 11 a.m. (About 40 minute
shows). Groups and preschools welcome. Reservations for large parties
are appreciated. Birthday packages available.
For more
information check our birthday page or call 919 365-0555. The theatre’s
location is at the corner of Peace St. and West St. There is a direction
page in this site.
